Even though it resulted in the loss of his re-election, Ford had good reason to pardon Nixon. Ford that Nixon had been very honest with him. Also, he really didn't think that Nixon was truly responsible for the Watergate scandal. He thought that he was falsely blamed. If I was in his posiion and shared his thoughts I would certainly pardon Nixon. I also think that Nixon had an agreement with Ford. I think this because Nixon could have just pardoned himself and resigned.

Gerald Ford pardoned Richard Nixon for many reasons. Three of these reasons were the Watergate Scandal, the accusation of tax fraud, and the misuse of government money.

The most important reason was the Watergate Scandal. This was when the Democratic National Committee was robbed and eavesdropped by Nixon and his accomplices. The Watergate Scandal was the main reason why Nixon was pardoned and resigned.

Furthermore, Richard Nixon was pardoned for tax fraud. Basically, Nixon didn't pay his taxes. Even though he was the president, he excused himself from what every other citizen of the US had to do. Besides, the Watergate Scandal, this was a good reason for pardoning Nixon.

Lastly, another possible reason Nixon was pardoned from being president was the misuse of government money. This money was thought to be used to pay for Nixon's additional houses. This is contradictory because in Nixon's resignation speech he said he would always put America first. However, using America's money for unnecessary things wasn't sticking to that promise.

Nixon had many actions that America didn't approve. This is why he was pardoned because he didn't grasp all of the responsibilities of a president.

Ford also believed that Nixon was not getting a fair trial. Personally I think he wanted to secretly anger the judicial branch. In his speech he said that he believed in equal rights. He thoguht Nixon was not getting them. He must have thought that Nixon was being cruelly punished. Natuarlly the people were not happy and it cost Ford re-election.

I think that there were many reasons for Ford pardoning Nixon. One is the whole Watergate thing. Nixon lied about his role, and knowledge in the Watergate break-ins. And Ford didn't want Nixon to possibly have to go on trial, and be further disgraced. It wouldn't have have been good for the country. Like he was supposed to be honest, and selfless, but the thing with the Watergate really didn't help his appearance as president. So Ford pardoned him because he didn't want him to be any more embarrassed than he was already because of the things he did, and said. If i were Nixon, having lied like that, even though i wouldn't have, i would defiantly not want to be president anymore because everyone would be able to know about every little thing i did, whether good or bad.

Ford could have pardoned Nixon because it would be the decent thing to do. Especially since both Nixon and Ford were republicans. My dad told me another theory. He said that there were many problems with America at the time. There was an economic crisis. Ford wanted to pardon Nixon so he could "end this chapter of American history."

I think that Ford was right to pardon Nixon for two reasons. First, Nixon had done many things, such as the Watergate Scandal, that made him deserve to be pardoned. Secondly, by pardoning Nixon it was showing mercy on Nixon even if what he did was wrong. Besides it looked better on Ford because then people would see him as kind and thoughtful.
